Just out of interest I had a look at the activity of the winning bidder for this jacket. I conclude that there are serious people out there who are very active on ebay -

30-Day Summary
Total bids: 63
Items bid on: 47
Bid activity (%) with this seller: 1%
Bid retractions: 0
Bid retractions (6 months): 0

Are they compulsive or are they buying for shops or what ?

Do you have a link to the EBay activity?

Note that the winning bidder, placed only one bid, right before the end of the bidding period. Probably a sniped bid. Meaning he uses a service that will automatically place bids at the last second. This type of bidding diminishes a bidding war on an item. At the end, the bid has to be greater than the hidden highest previous bid on an item.

Recently I watched a bid that was actually placed at the last second of an auction.
With professionals bidding using these methods on so many items it puts us mere amateurs at a disadvantage unless we bid [too] high early.

I realise we've had this discussion before, John, and I understand about tactics, but if you bid your maximum towards the end, chances are you will win, and if you don't, you won't be unhappy with the result.

Absolutely David.
I am just amazed at the activity of other ebayers.
BTW is it just me who thinks the glory days of ebay are over, what with high fees and so on, have sellers found other markets ?

John, it's not just professionals-- assuming there is such a thing on eBay-- doing that. Many bidders do. I get three free snipes per week at freeauctionsniping.auctionstealer.com, and they're only 19 cents (US) apiece for successful ones only at snip.pl. (They don't charge for unsuccessful ones.) And they give you 5 free to try it out. Well worth it, in my opinion, and I can squeeze a penny with the best of 'em.

Is it safe to divulge your password to a third party ?
Will this affect how ebay react if your account gets hacked ?
