Repro being passed of as an original. I hope no one here is tempted to by it!

Not unless I got way smaller and more stoopider! But thanks for posting these. I'm sure there are jackets that I'd never be able to tell without you guys here.
But the lining and pockets alone look off to me, without even much of a look.
I think Good Wear jackets will be sold as WWII down the road either intentionally or mistakenly. That's my fear for the hobby. JC is too good :)

I got an email from the seller telling me it's original! He has either been fooled in the past or is out to deliberately fool others!

I've given up doing that. I've never had anyone back off after I pointed out an item that was not legit.
I've tried, and I've reported to eBay with no luck.

Contacting the buyers after their names become available when they post their ratings can be interesting.

It 'd be good to have the clues pointed out for us (me  ) so we (I) can spot the difference.
The liner and waist/cuffs may have been replaced at some time so that won't be the decisive clues.

The pocket flaps look off of the regular shape, but I don't know all the pocket flaps types of every A2 ever made. Same for the epaulettes, wich seem to have the wrong ratio of cross stitch on beginning and end.

I have asked this before, is there a book that deals with A2 specifics of every type ever made?

cheers,
Rutger

I'd love to know how it was patinated - that's transformed a jacket that I would otherwise have associated with pleather (or at least blandness personified).
Authenticity aside, it's a lovely looking hide.

Some of the early Avirex jackets, sported a brass Talon bell zip, neck hanger sewn through the back (no loop) contrast stitching, orange brown cotton poly liner, and correct chrome steel neck hooks. Some of the hides aged very nicely.

Good questions! I'm no expert, but the tell tale clues for me were that:
The pocket shape was like nothing else seen on an original, too rounded bottom corners.
Likewise for the pocket flap, though vaguely similar to some orignals.
Brass zipper was a bit hard to see in this listings photo, but doesn't look anything like similar Conmar or Talon original zips in brass finish.
The waistbadn & cuffs are pilling and obviously have some synthetic material in them; if they were replacements on an original, the fit quality of them is a little too uniform to be a replacement. That'd be a hard call to make, though.

Marc at acmedepot has assembled a great reference of the specific differences & qualities of original contracts, which was the starting point for me. John Chapmans CD would be your next step.

The seller has now added some caveats to the description;

BEAUTIFUL JACKET A2
MISSING LABEL
ESTIMATED SIZE 36/38 S / M
ORIGINAL PAINTINGS
SOURCE , UNIT : UNKNOWN
WWII ( WITHOUT COMMITTING MYSELF )
SO , NICE OFFER

FULL ZIP FUNCTIONAL
CONDITION, SEE PICTURES
SOLD AS IS

NOTA : I AM NOT AN A2 SPECIALIST

ie, I've found out this is not a WW2 era A2, but still hope somebody out there is gullible enough to believe it is.

Some will change their listing others don't!
:?

I've had them say they will change their ad and they never do. Most do say thank you and change their ads though.

 (without committing myself) this is the best original A-2 you will ever find

That's probably one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time!
