A contact has asked about removing a painted decal from a McCoy's A2. Can anyone offer advice please ?

if its a decal and not well put on, sometimes wetting the decal are real well and crinkling it up will lift the decal off in pieces. a mild soap in the water may help. if its actually painted on, the only solution is acetone or some kind of paint remover. regardless of how carefully it is done, there will be a ghost where it was removed. the ghost area can be redyed, but is best done by someone who knows his [her] shit.

An original made and applied in Japan decal on a RMcC’s A-2…
Note the HH grainy structure, plus the real 1000% as a WW2 original.
However, I am confident that I can remove it easily without any “ghost” effect….. hence, if the owner in question is happy to pay for all occuring fees, shipping forth and back cost.. I am sure and grant a 101% success…provided its an original RMcC’s decal…( see attachment an original RMcC’s meatbal) ..

Any subsequently added low cost meat ball ( happens very often, even discussed here) is a nightmare and a ruined jacket…but it was low cost by all meanings …IMHO….

Any one with a useful suggestion ?
I had once an original decal applied to my jacket and it came off after my jacket got soaked during heavy rain... I'd scratched it off with my nail and a small wooden stick. Didn't leave any ghostmarks (maybe due to the fact that it was an original decal and old less powerful glue).

Maybe you can try to soak the leather so the glue or other adhesive will solve and try to scratch it off...

Agreed, it does look like a water applied decal rather than a heat adhesive type so perhaps a gentle application of moisture to damp the hide might permit it to be picked off. Working the hide beforehand might induce cracking to get the damp behind it.
The decal softener is worth a bash too. Test anything on an unseen area first (underneath pocket flap etc). Ghosting is always a possibility but that depends on hide fade etc.
