That AN-J3 with the canvas inner pockets and snaps on the flaps reminds me of one of the Barry Lyndon versions. Maybe that's why the label is missing

If the label wasn't missing, it wouldn't be an AN-J-3. ;)

Read the listing for the Spiewak carefully. Not only did he remove the patch from an original jacket but it was his dad's jacket who, I quote " flew B-52's out of Africa over Germany ! The stitch holes also "rub out". Boy, wish I had known that when I was put off buying jackets because they had stitch holes. I would not buy that jacket if it were the last A-2 on earth !

It's amazing how distorted these guys service histories can get! Sometimes, things make some sense if you can sort out what the families think they know....and sometimes not.

With this fellow, it would be very hard to say much from what they have said in their description. I will say, the squadron patch does not help the their story. I can't remember what unit it specifically is, but I am pretty sure it is a stateside WW II AAF Air Field, Flight Training Detachment, or Flight School. That makes me think the fellow was probably a flight instructor. He could have gone on to fly some combat, but that would be hard to say.

Hopefully, someone knows exactly what the patch is, but I don't think it is going to turn out to be particularly exciting.

Clearly the seller just got their 5s and 2s mixed up. B25s out of Africa.

Or maybe he ended his career on Diego Garcia.
