Brill Bros G-1 78230D near-mint find

Hey all!

I’d been looking for a G-1 jacket for a while in California, and randomly found this jacket in a vintage shop in Mexico City for ~$260.

Looks to be a Brill Bros MIL-J-78230D contract no. DSA 100-68-C-1805 size 38, belonging to “Olsen RJ” (couldn’t find any info on this). It has both a US flag and Marine Corps patch.

Other than a few moth holes on both cuffs, looks to be in really good condition. I have a few questions:

1- Looks like the collar is mouton from the color, since it was manufactured in 1968 it could go either way but just wanted some opinions.

2- Planning on removing the USMC patch so I can wear the jacket around - should I also remove the US flag patch?

3- Looks like goatskin - but maybe someone more experienced can confirm? I’ll probably add a thin layer of Lexol as some parts of the leather feel dry but nowhere besar close to cracking.

Thank you all in advance!!

Ok, two thoughts on this one:
  1. Don't remove any patches. If you want a jacket without patches, sell it (it's worth more with the patches) and get one without patches. You should be able to do so and still have some money left over.
  2. It's actually 7823D (as in "Daniel")
  3. Definitely goatskin, definitely mouton.

Thanks for the input! Just corrected to add the D in the title.
