Probably one of the most revolutionary designs ever produced; the B-15 series broke the existing concepts of flight jacket of the time by using new materials and improved modifications.
During WWII, the USAAF faced a rapid depletion of leather resource and started developing flight jackets using materials other than leather. The first model with a cotton outer shell and alpaca lining, the Type B-10, appeared in 1943. However, its style and design were only temporary, and it was never a functional product. Thus, in April 1944, just nine months after the B-10 appeared, the Type B-15 with a more functional design was adopted. In this way, the B-15 series, which was released just before the end of World War II, continued to be refined in the midst of the drastic changes of the times, such as the birth of the USAF and the emergence of jet fighters and bombers, and gradually became the mainstay of the USAF.
In this line up we have the following examples:
- B-15 (1944)
- B-15A (1945)
- B-15B (1949-1950)
- B-15C (1951-1952)
- B-15D (1953)
Enjoy it!
