Abercrombie & Fitch vintage flight jacket C.A.P. pilot

Neat Abercrombie & Fitch vintage private purchase leather flight jacket
once owned by C.A.P. (Civil Air Patrol) pilot.
This coat sold for $520 on Ebay today...
It jumped from $260 to double that in a matter of minutes towards the end.
Still a lot more affordable than a patched USAAF A2 flight jacket!

It has a removable (zippered) cold weather fur liner...
Note red liner (with A & F Co. tag) and fur liner and 2 differently branded zippers even...

Unless I am wrong R. Earle in the picture would that be his jacket (Ralph Earle)??? That would be neat to have a picture of the person who owned this jacket during the war

OMG I did not even notice that! Indeed, must be the same guy!
The jacket was an e-bay offer I did not win and the photo I found on the web...
Totally unrelated to the auction.
I accidently made the connection (and with out even realizing it) because I matched up the plane's insignia with the jacket's insignia...
not at all paying attention to the names on the life vests! Its a match!
No doubt its the same guy!

I contacted the seller and explained that I have a copy of a period picture of the actual owner, for him to share with the new owner (hi-bid buyer) ...
He never replied back...He doesn't care, sold it, made money and moved on... (history lost?)

Please compare the patch on your jacket to your loose "painted" one, you'll notice quite a bit of " variation" in the two, again the loose patch is one of those RKO types that were made post war by my understanding and not very good in detail/quality, the jacket patch is the "True" design/details.

Can it be verified in any way that that jacket isn't a fake? The zipout liner seems odd at first blush to me...but maybe period jackets did have them. I dunno..just wonderin'. Perhaps inspiration for the jacket came from the photie of Mr. Earle, which obviously is just out there kickin' around on the interweb.

A&F was a high-end label (then!) A zip-out liner would have been a pricey option at the time. Zips were much more expensive relative to the rest of the material/labor than today.
