Even the enlisted mens uniforms were sharp in those days, how very unlike the RAAF or RAF. No wonder it was a source of friction. :) I've had examples of both uniforms and it amazed me the high quality of tailoring that was achieved on the basic US uniforms and yet there were millions made.

What a great shot Ted, thanks.

Thanks for posting these pictures Ted. The autobiography of Bob Morgan is a most interesting read, which I would highly recommend.

I don't think I've ever seen the little wings & props between the stripes and rockers of a sergeant's markings.

Ts and diamonds, but never the wings & props.

I had associate the winged stripes with pre- or early wartime, but Bob Morgan writes that the bond tour took place in the summer of '43!

Anyone know for sure about the stripes? Were they perhaps an option for aircrew? Worn only stateside? Phased in then right out?

I had the opportunity to meet and talk briefly with Robert Morgan before he passed, very nice gentleman and glad to have been able to shake his hand and thank him for what he did for us during WW2 !
