A-2 Picture Found Today

I found this photo of a guy wearing his A-2 in an antique store today. Notice he has the collar upturned and is looking "cool". On the back is written "T.J. Lawrence while in the U.S Airforce during World War II". Any ideas on who the maker is?

doesn't look like an A-2 jacket.

Hmmmmmm.................so what does it look like to you, a private purchase jacket? It has the hook at the neck, the zipper looks good and the leather looks good.

Any other opinions for a possible ID?

Gone, but not forgotten.
Yes, some sort of private purchase jacket perhaps. For an A-2 the zipper seems to finish short, no evidence of collar snaps, and the collar's a little small ... the leather looks kind of bobbly, like buffalo hide.

to me, it's the collar snaps and the short zip as well, couldn't pick up on the collar size and leather though.

The short zip is obvious. Does the jacket appear to have a collar stand? The zip ending at the base of the stand? If it has a collar stand it does not extend over the top of the storm flap.
I'm not sure it is clear there are no collar snaps. The jacket appears quite 'new' so they may not show through the surface leather of the collar, and the photo is too dark around the collar to see snaps on the body of the jacket.
too bad there isn't more to see of this jacket.

I'm looking at this on an iPhone rather than iMac so image quality is a little poor, but I fancy that I see the cotton covered rear of the left snap on the right of the photo.

I can't make out an epaulette on his right shoulder. The zipper looks a bit different too. It seems like a civilian jacket to my (tired) eyes.

I agree. It's a civi leather jacket. As members know from around 1943 when only replacement A2s were generally produced many airmen privately purchased leather jackets. Great picture BTW.

Thank you to everyone for their input.

It will be added to my collection of pictures of people wearing flight jackets.
