I think that jacket looks like a standard US Army field jacket - he must have left his A2 and his B3 back in the barracks.

Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to which contract the guy 2nd row from front, 2nd from the right, to the right(our right) of the guy holding the picture. Those pocket flaps are beautifully shaped and very distinctive, looks a little like a Star or maybe a Bronco or Cable.

Just curious - I got what you said about these guys being a little scary. Why is that, do you think? 's They certainly look proud and a bit dangerous - that's what you expect and want in a soldier, I suppose. The jackets only make them look even more like that!

My opinion, I think it's an effect of hard combat.

You really think that's an M-43? I just thought the shoulders looked a little more square than the usual combat jacket, but you could be right.

Looks like an M-41 to me. They were issued to the Air Force. I'm not sure that the M-43 ever was.

Yeah, I thought it had some "texture" to it, like an Ike Jacket or battle dress jacket.

I looked close (image is pretty low res) and you can see a fastening tab under the collar on the wearer's left side, so it could well be a US combat jacket, but maybe wool overcoats had the tabs too?
