392nd Bomb Group insignia and question

This is my favorite, of this Group I have done. Simple design, but the challenge is not to get any paint on the bare leather, otherwise your screwed. Did they add the gray thumbs up gauntlet after 25 missions, or was that a style change guys thought was cool.
