Picked up my first vintage horsehide jacket today complete pie in the sky punt just because it's horsehide and I like it,

Can anyone tell me if these hold in value or are they quite common?

The value of these types of jackets is contingent upon what any buyer is willing to pay for it . For example, do you feel like you got a deal on this jacket when you bought it ?
You may feel like you did , but if you post what you actually paid for it … some of us may feel that you overpaid .
Point being that it’s hard to put an accurate value on these commercially made jackets .
With military flight jackets we have data such as numbers produced , dates of manufacture, who made them etc that helps us put a ball park value on those jackets . Not so in the commercial world.

I’d like to see you get $500 for it.

8% valuation commission charge notwithstanding.

Good luck with your sale.

Those post war US utility jackets have gone up in price a lot lately led by the Japanese market. Only less than a decade ago you could have picked that up in Britain for £130, and less in the US where the sellers in the UK source them. But even in the US where the thrift shops used to be full of them they are getting rarer and people are asking more for them.

Bargains are still to be had though if not worn out. But they are very old jackets now. Repros are more wearable and can be bought used.

For me the money sounds reasonable. I think it is always in the eye of the buyer whether or not he paid the right price.

Condition seems to be OK - if they would be my size i'd grabbed the "RALPH" as well because i like the design more.

From a perspective of "investment" for sure a ORIGINAL A2 or B3 hold their value more - depending of how far you wanna go with the preservation.
