1938 Aero

Or according to his measurements maybe actually a size 40? Nice jacket though. I wish him the best with it!

I've noticed that original jackets have really been fetching some high prices. Both wearers and collectible with history. A cool 95th BG painted jacket sold for well over 4k last night without any extras, just the jacket!

You well be correct about the size of the Aero. The shoulder measurement does seem small for a size 42. It would be tight on me so I'm not bidding on this one. I bought my 1940 Aero from Simon and got it for a good price as there was no reserve. I suspect the reserve will be set at $3k on this one. The wristlets and waistband are surely replacements.

The BIN has been been reduced to $3,299. Looking at the measurements again, which have been amended I think, it could even be a large 38, hence the 8 on the other size tag.

Simon's jacket has "sold" again for $1,524.00 this time having "sold" for $2000 in December. Now what is interesting is that the same person with a feedback score of 546 "bought" it in December and also "bought" it today for the lower price. Simon originally paid over $2,700 for it in 2009 and clearly he wanted to get his money back. Is it possible that the winner of both auctions was actually a friend of Simon's employed to stimulate the bidding? It does look very suspicious to me and I bet the jacket will get re-listed in due course.

For a guy who sells doctored jackets and outright mock-ups as in the case of that civilian "hitler" jacket, you sure talk a lot of shit.

Oh dear! Attack me as you have done in the past rather rather than objectively look at the point I'm making.

fyi: i am the buyer, and former high bidder of the aero [i really shouldnt bid on jacs whilst in my cups, hahahaha. i canceled the first transaction, as i decided the price was way to high, and simon agreed to the cancelation. he was a gentleman about my cancelation, and told me i could bid again when he relisted. this i did and won the auction. plain, and simple. no monkey shines, no bs. when simon originally bought the aero, it was sent to me to forward to him in the uk, so i know the jacket. the knits are not replacements, and the photos do not do justice to the jacket. it is in outstanding condition, with hides being thick and supple. i always wondered about the stitching through the liner for the pockets, but the stitching is consistent with the rest of the jackets stitching. know this: despite some opinions around here, simon is an honest buyer-seller. simon took a loss on the aero, period.

I guess that explains it. Congrats. Rare jacket indeed! I'd love to see more detailed photos if you ever get the time.

Thanks for clarification and hope you understand the concern some had as it did look a little fishy.

Would be neat to know if all '38 Aeros had pockets sewn thru the liner. Maybe these were replacement pockets...

This is certainly the downside of those continually on the prowl policing eBay. Didn't used to be that way here until several years ago. Dissection and speculation of auctions have caused several sellers and buyers to finally post and 'explain' themselves since this has become more a common practice for some on the VLJ. Either out of anger..or to save face from some kinda under handed conjecture sadly initiated on our part. Many of us had no doubt about Simon's honesty..and any loss or resale should be his business...rather than dug up history to be analyzed and questioned as probable conspiracy. Sad.

Simon's 1938 Aero is a very rare jacket and it should have sold for more on Ebay than it did. The fact that the same person, who we now know is Victor, won the jacket in late December and again yesterday for a lower price, did initially look suspicious to me. However Victor has explained what happened and is now the owner of this great jacket. Thank you Victor for your explanation. I'm really glad Simon's reputation as an honest seller is untarnished.

Listen guys-no personal attacks please!

If you have a personal problem with someone, take it off this board-and please don't nitpick either.

It's fine to discuss jackets, auctions, and perceived problems with them, but please don't make it a mud-slinging match.

Best,

Chris
