1926 Air Corps Tunic

Most WWI Air Corp uniforms aren't worth as much as this person is asking  , so I don't think they're going to get any bites. :(

Between the wars uniforms aren't really that collectable compared to WWI and WWII unless they are part of a larger group or the person was someone of note.

Nice uniform though. :D

Nice looking but again.... NO PROVENANCE! I see many problems and I know little of AS uniforms. So, WWI medals(including the Belgian Croix de guerre) kept with uniform but no name or other info? I realize units could be awarded the CDG but you often see heroes/aces with that award listed. However he got it, he kept it with his things and was proud, yet no name or papers? So, he served in WWI, presumably as a pilot with this distinction, and stayed in service long enough to obtain an M1926 tunic, yet only 2nd Lt? I know flyers were ranked differently but....

Seller assumes it was not put together in the past 80+ years but I say, without provenance, we must assume it was. Just like a put together piece, it can never regain history. BTW, selling without a history, WWI AS tunics have brought much less.

Finally, his angle is suspicious. Free shipping to sweeten the pot of such a desirable piece. "I am not knowledgable about this item, am selling it for my father." yet he quotes the value of the wings AND starts at $2400 with BIN $2700+? I'm certain this "unknowledgeable" seller would have known the importance of at least a name if starting at $2400!
The "no reserve" is classic.

Wow, I need another pint!

I was just commenting on its "between the wars" value, but the provenance issues your bring up are much more important.

Good points Dave.

Yeah, it's just too bad that the people closest to the piece, who are most able to go back for more info, don't. Each time it changes hands, that get's exponentially harder to do.
If it isn't named now and yet let's say it's somehow proven authentic, it will still be worth only that of a put together tunic and then what a loss of history that would be! This was a very interesting time in aviation for sure.

It looks humped up to me. I am almost 100% sure the wing is a fake, and it is not the style worn in 1926. The collar insignia should not be blackened bronze....they went to guilt brass right after WW I. And, they were not wearing WW I patches then either. Plus, the officers cap is from sometime in the 1950's.

Cap-wrong for period, and perhaps not even period at all
Collar brass and cap device-wrong for 1926
Wing -DEFINITELY wrong for 1926

I'm amazed that nowadays there's that much cash around for put together like this. It's like parking a Ferrari at a bus stop. Just plain idiotic. (my rant is over now. Thanks for listening)
