The chemical-like odor has nothing to do with shipping. It's from the tanning / finishing process of the Pakistani leather that's used. My Avi M-422A still carries the same smell, 2 years after purchase.

Aside from allowing the jacket to air out and the smell to dissipate over time, not really. Its really only noticeable at this point, if my jacket has been stored in a garment bag. FWIW, I've owned three Avi jackets and they all smelled the same. It's one of several reasons that I swore off cheap repros.

Get a ozone generator. You have to use care in its use to be safe.
