Depot Redye: Opinions on Choice of Knit Color?

Hi: In making a seal brown depot redye out of an old generic A-2, what would do you think would look better for knit color, brown (not seal brown) or russet?

Thanks, Jennison

That looks really nice! Is that russet or Aero red?
Great question
Russet knits have been discussed here a number of times over the years. It seems that they start out as the ones pictured above with a red tone but after some wear and fade the color tones down a little . For example see the photo of an original A2 with original russet knits . It looks a little less red .

I would ask, what look are you going for. A lot of depot jackets ended up with seal knits. I would go for that if you want a uniform look. If you want a contrast, go with a mid brown or russet. If you use Aero Red, it will look like it is trying to be an Aero. That color was specific to that mfg.

The aero red would be a nice contrast to a dark seal and once the dye starts to wear off it will look really stunning imho
That color combo is great if that is the look you are going for. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I think that combo looks sharp.

I agree very bold and for sure it’s an Aero thing but would be fun to do as once the dye wears off it will develop a lot of character..depending on how generic the jacket looks russet would work very well also
