Spearhead A-1 Arrival

Please forgive my lack of experience as far as stitch types, fabrications, and assorted other factors when discussing this jacket. I have also owned two Spearhead B-10's and found them superior in construction and fit to the ATF, but that's my two cents, or pence. Knits are one piece, and are substantial in thickness at the waist and collar, (should wear quite well), the stitching seams to be rather straight forward, neat, straight and snug. The wool shell (reminds me of German loden cloth) I would compare the thickness to a 3.0 oz horsehide. The lining appears to be 100% cotton. I missed one picture, the pocket flap is lined with the same fabric as the lining. The sizing at least in my situation is dead on. I am a 48R/L depending on measurements. This jacket is a stated size 48 or XXL. Length, shoulder seam to end of knit is 27 inches, length, collar seam to end of waist knit 27 inches, armpit front 25 inches, armpit back 26 inches, shoulder across is 21 inches. Hope the information, and pictures help. for 75.00 plus shipping well worth having to knock around in, but that's my two cent's or pence.

I also took a chance and ordered a size 42 last week, it arrived here in UK today (very fast shipping from China!). I am very impressed with the quality, the size is spot-on and fits and 'hangs' just like an A-2. For the price the detail and fabric is excellent, Newey press studs on the waist are a nice touch. Ok, so it isn't an exact copy of a pre-war cloth jacket but it looks the part, is comfortable and should wear well and be a nice warm jacket. Buzz Rickson make a similar jacket for mega-bucks but for value-for-money this one is highly-recommended! Spearhead are to be congratulated for making something a little different.

Did you manage to avoid the dreaded import duty ?

Yes...thank you for posting the review of your jacket. It seems like that A-1 is a fantastic value for the price. Even though I don't wear my leather A-1 as much as I should, I may have to take the Spearhead plunge, myself.

No import duties, then again, it's value wasn't high enough from what I can tell...parcelforce delivered with no mention of customs. I think this jacket would look great worn in the winter under a B-3 although the wool on this is thick enough to be warm itself. And in the summer evenings walking the dog it goes nicely over a tee or shirt.

I seem to have become a specialist in old thread necromancy.

Any chance of seeing some fit photos?
This is just the sort of thing I have been looking for, a non-leather classic styled short jacket.

Nice jacket!

I'm tempted to go bigger than usual . .then HWT the thing to get rid of some of the bagginess, if any? Without a zipper it seems like it would shrink to fit nicely. Also tempted to add some leather reinforcements but that's another project.

If you want fit, you will have to ask Sean a2jacketpatches, I traded it to him.
