Scammers are everywhere

Posted a wanted ad on the ELC Classifieds, had a reply from someone who sent me photos of my RMNZ Perry Sportswear jacket that I sold to Artie....bastards are everywhere

Specially on Facebook. I've seen so many scammers trying to sell Eastman and Good Wear jacket. Thanks for the heads up, John.

Told them I knew it was in the USA. They replied I am in the USA....
also pointed out the background is my bedroom carpet.

Honestly who can you trust ?
I see the ELC. FB has banned adverts because of scammers.
I think I would only buy face to face unless the seller was known to me.

Looking for a rare car part on specialist forum last week on FB & was approached within minutes by someone that had several. Got a PM from someone warning me it was probably a scammer. Looked up seller profile..big red flag 3 photos and no other profile content..swerved it. £100 lifted from my bank account yesterday by a parking enforcement company..phoned bank fraud dept who swiftly reimbursed me..account details probably obtained from a data breach somewhere..welcome to the modern age….

Unfortunately the ELC Classifieds in particular seems to a favourite haunt of scammers.

Update.
After telling Gary of my experience he has made changes to the Classifieds page over on the ELC website.
From now on you have to be logged in to see contact details for the ads.

If you browse through the flight-jacket related pages on FB there is scammers all over the place.

A guy recently tried to sell an ANJ3 with artwork by Josh for 2.800 USD

I think the days of remote transactions to complete strangers are over. Face to face is very restrictive but is tried and tested.

It's a sad byproduct of the information super highway, unfortunately. I know some people use somewhat discreet watermarks on product pics, which makes sense given the ease with which anybody can save pictures (and use for nefarious purposes). The 'net is definitely a two edged sword.

… agree with all am about avoiding scammers… please also consider high end auction houses like Ratisbon’s, and others…for selling high end militaria and aviation memorabilia….especially WWII and German items.
