Gents,
It's been a while but I just got back from a long trip and I wanted to share this extremely rare piece from an extensive grouping: the original flight suit worn by the Jim Sandberg while testing the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 (PAV-2) on its first flight.
This flight suit was made by Bowlers Shirt & Uniform Co., Inc. This company provided uniforms for test pilots from Northrop, Lockheed, and Grumman, among others.
The condition of this piece is mint, which is rare considering it's over 30 years old and the nature of its use.
Left chest depicts the embroided name "JIM SANDBERG".
Right chest depicts a Northrop McDonnell Douglas ATF-23 flight test patch.
Left shoulder depicts the USA flag patch.
Right shoulder depicts an ATF CTF patch.
One of the coolest aspects of this grouping is that Jim provided pictures of himself wearing the flight suit during the first flight.
Say no more guys, enjoy the pics.
Regards,
Jorge
