Expanding my WW 1 Tommy impression and research has shown a surprising number walking out in a type of low boot that is pretty much identical to the usmc shoes offered by ww2 impressions. That is to say, shoe style cut, no broad welt, brogued toecap and dark colour.
Is anyone able to suggest something that also fits the bill before I see about A ww2imp set? Bearing in mind that I am UK based

Check out William Lennon - I've got a pair of these - quality made in the UK in the traditional way and nearly indestructible/can be repaired by a cobbler, so I feel the expense is warranted as they will outlast me.

They also make other traditional styles and if you ask nicely they will show you how they make them in their small family workshop in Derbyshire.

I have Lennon B5 boots. What I was seeking to replicate was the occasional practice of using civilian or privately aquired footwear when walking out

In that case I think the keyword in your search may be Veldschoen there are lots made today but usually don't come cheap.
