Is a G-1 Flight Jacket meant to fit like this?

Hi All,

Everyone on this forum has helped educate me so much about leather jackets, I am genuinely appreciative of all the knowledge you have shared with me so far. If possible I would really like to pick your collective brains again and ask for some m ore advice.

I have not worn this jacket much recently and I only just noticed this today. On my less than a year old G-1 it looks like where the two halves of the jacket meet they don't marry up correctly. You can see from the pictures that this mismatch is significantly more obvious when the jacket is worn.

Should it look like this or would you send this back saying this is a manufacturing defect?

I never really noticed how bad it was until today, when you see it on a flat surface its not that obvious. I do have a few other issues with this jacket that I originally overlooked when I first received it. Mainly areas where they had run a stitch and then realised it was wrong and unpicked it to run the stitch more to another side etc. This was meant to be a brand new jacket and is not in anyway supposed to be a second or trainee made jacket.

My original G-1 does something similar, but the opposite way:

I think a bit of zipper mis-match is just a very common idiosyncrasy in the construction of these jackets.

Its not correct, but it happens.
Is this an original or a repro?
Can you live with it? If not, you could get this fixed with a leather specialist... Need to re-align the zipper... But be careful, make sure they know what they're doing.
I had someone work on a G-1 a while back and Im not sure what they did, but they really did a messy job re-stitching.

Ref the top photo. Perhaps it's me but it looks like you don't have the zipper pins engaged into the box evenly?

Thanks for your feedback.

I have taken another picture after making sure the zipper is 100% correctly inserted. If you look at the picture you can see it looks a LOT better. I will do another picture when I am wearing it to see what it's like.

I'll certainly double check that everything is 100% allied when I next fasten the jacket up. I think Ken Calder recently did a post showing how messed up you can get the zippers if you don't get them aligned correctly.
