WW2 Buff

Hello, I do not know if they were made after the war, but I presume they were. I would bet there are others here who know more about this type of jacket. I like your jacket, it looks good to me. It is difficult to know, if your jacket had been worn by a Luftwaffe pilot, without any reliable provenance. But I would be happy with it. Just having a ww2 period European style motorcycle jacket would be good enough for me. The large collar is supposedly the European style of the ww2 period. As you probably know this type of jacket was named after Eric Hartmann-the Luftwaffe's top fighter "Experte" (specialist or ace). There were different variations of this jacket that are also correct. For a while, Hartmann wore this type of jacket without insignia or medals. During the war, Luftwaffe pilots and aircrewman would privately purchase leather period motorcycle jackets. Although Hartmann fought on the Russian front, the Hartmann type jacket was typically a French purchased jacket (they typically have French zippers). I don't believe these motorcycle jackets were issued to the Luftwaffe, however the Luftwaffe high command allowed it or at least they didn't actively attempt to prohibit this practice.

Seems that you have a nice french cyclist jacket. in good condition . Model borrowed and adopted by the luft waffe for his elegant and good looking style. Quite sure that kermit and Pilot will tell more about the jacket history ...
