Just had the email from Eastman. It's £69.99 and they have a launch at American Classics on 8th December, 4-9pm.

Looks good but only available through ELC so no chance of amazon marketplace bargain copies :-(

I'm convinced it'll be a great book, the initial imagery looks incredibly promising, and I would dearly love one but at 70 quid I'm priced out of this one. Mind you when socks are priced a 20 pound a pair I should hardly be surprised.

Not Eastman bashing just disappointed

I'll live though!

just a partial shot from the email. It's fiddly to get the whole thing, couldn't quite get it to copy.

Nothing they do is priced at the pocket of the moderate means. I hope its not another cowboys of the sky thinly veiled attempt at advertising. I hope for better from them. I am sure it wont be.
I shant be getting one, not at that price sorry. bet its a great read too.

I guess that it depends on how you plan to use it.
If it helps you to identify a potentially valuable A-2 on the basis of small details and save money/assist with a sale then it could pay for itself, but as a 'read' possibly a bit expensive given that it appears to be a large format book that's light on text.
Might hold back for a bit and see what the re-sale price is like when they finally hit Amazon in used condition.

im in. i need some new shit house reading material...ya know, stuff with different pix. price? not cheap, but the price of a copy of full gear is something like $200, and its in japanese, has limited pix [though it does include other aaf and navy] jacs, and is not entirely correct regarding contracts and dates.

Well I'll be getting a copy. Hope to pick up at the launch then over the road to the Cross Keys pub for a couple of pints and a browse.

Personally I think the price compares well with Japanese publications and it's in English (I hope! )

If the quality is there I don't mind paying and I'm glad Eastman are doing such projects.

I plan to attend the launch and will be buying the book as it will be the only comprehensive book available on A2s. The price is not that expensive when you take into account the years of research Gary has undertaken, the money he has spent to source the original jackets and the cost associated with printing a book which is aimed at the specialist collector.

Eastman has developed themselves into a total WW2 Air Force dry goods company. Product, web design, and packaging is reminiscent of an upscale PX from the period. I have a couple of jackets purchased on the bay, but recently bought a B-2 direct. I was impressed with the packaging, and made up documents that came with (at a price). Customers that live the Eastman product, and collect originals will buy this book. I think it really does not matter what my opinion is, it's up to the purchaser to deside the value.

Hi all,
Well I shall be going as its down the road and an excuse to get out and have a few drinks with some mates. It would be nice to meet some VLJ members. I'll be the one in the A-2! ;) ;) wonder how many Goodwear will be on display! :D
The A-2 is one jacket I don't yet own, I think I'll be wearing some nice warm nylon, bearing in mind the weather we have at the moment! I've heard some good talk about it but saying that the last few must have jacket books have been a disappointment.

Hope to see you there.

If it's got a little bit of this and that, I'll probably get one. Some new pics of patches, paint, tags, etc. 70 bucks isn't bad.
