I bought this jacket last Spring, gambling that it would fit me, based on the measurements sent to be by the seller. It is too small, fits like what it is: a size 40. The collar is real mouton; the goatskin is very fine, but has a faint, almost petrochemical smell to it that I can't identify. No USN paint on the collar, or stictch on the wind flap. Odd detail to leave out, I think.
The jacket measures as follows:
Pit-to-pit: 22"
Front zipper: 22"
Base of collar to base of knits, back: 25 1/4"
Shoulders, across the back: 18"
Sleeve length to the end of the knits: 24"
The label reads as follows:
"Bureau of Aeronautics, USN
Flight Jacket Intermediate, G-1
Specifications MIL-J-7823 (AER)
J.A. Dubow Sporting Goods Corp.
Contract No. N383S-47654"
The size tag is attached below: 40
The waistband knits are a little tatty looking, but no real wear on them. Same with the cuffs. The red liner is solid, with no center seam.
The patch belongs to a Recon/bomber squadron, the VS-6, which fought at the Battle of Midway, flying from the carrier Enterprise. It was added by a previous owner (I'm at least the third owner). The jacket has a short wind flap. I've lightened the pics with me wearing the jacket so more detail is evident. The last pic captures the rich, real color of the hide and the collar.
I've since bought a Navy-issue 55J14, and this jacket looks and fits more like that than a G-1. It sits in my closet, unworn. Needs a good home; deserves to be worn. LW sells this jacket for $975, which is nuts. So, reasonable offers considered. PM is you are interested, and we can talk about it.
