It's not a A-1 flight jacket. The Maguire book has a wrong ID on it. However people still believe it is a A-1 flight jacket.

I've always been puzzled by it, too. The few originals I've seen (in photographs) sure look like A-1s...but who would design a wool shelled jacket for use in open cockpit planes? There's no doubt that wool can provide excellent insulation, but almost any material on earth would be more windproof.
