Found at a thrift store last night and couldn't resist the 1958 dated label. This cammo pattern is known as jigsaw and the material is a heavy Egyptian cotton very heavy duty and well made. Looked like it would fit but dammit, my figure ain't what it used to be. This jacket type was used in the following -
Rebel forces known as the "Simbas" seized the Congolese city of Stanleyville in 1964, capturing thousands of European hostages. Fearing a massacre, a two-pronged rescue effort was mounted. A column of white mercenaries under the legendary Mike Hoare headed for Stanleyville overland, and was forced to fight every step of the way. Belgian Paracommandos were also secretly readied to drop on Stanleyville if needed. With the mercenary column stalled, the decision was made to go ahead with the paradrop. The Belgian commandos quickly cleared Stanleyville airport, raced to the city, and freed the hostages. The famous "red beret" paracommandos wore a mixture of older uniforms along with the newer jigsaw, also known as puzzle pattern, camouflage.
