437th FIS Squadron Cap ?

Hi All,
I recently picked up this cap, I think it might relate to 437th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron who flew out of Oxnard AFB, California. I think this style of cap dates from late 50's-early 60's. I'm leaning towards the 1960's when the squadron flew F-101 Voodoo jets. If anyone has any info it would be of great help. Just to get a date for the cap would be a start! As yet I've found very few photo's of 437th FIS pilots and crew.

Quite similar to the Navy pattern of the 60s. Likely a sportsman's cap that was so common. It's amazing there are few stories of how these caps came to be chosen.

Hi Stu,

I most believe that's a civil cap on which a patch has been added and then used for veterans association reunions. But it's very nice and certainly full of stories. It seems to be from the ww2 USAAF B-1 cap design.

Hi all,
Thanks for the reply's, I'm really happy with the cap, and as yet it has no providence, As Franck says if may probably turn out to be a veteran association cap, but... Just thought I'd put these two shots from the USAF Air Base fire department at Oxnard AFB, California were the 437th were based and a couple of the guys seem to have large patches on there caps! Other Units on the base may have similar style caps. As yet this is all I've got but you never know!

It's a bit deep in the crown for a B-1 pattern, though I can see the resemblance. The "sundowner" bill is also absent. I have a USN cap sent to me by a USMF member that is very similar except it is a four-panel rather than this five-panel. It's one I'd like to make but just need the time.
There were quite a few 5-panel caps back then. It is amazing the number of shots of these caps that show up but so few survive.

Hi all,
Another squadron in the 1950's with what looks like rectangular patches attached to the caps.
