I'm curious: what was the 'use case' for this jacket? Ground crews? A particular aircraft crew position? It looks so much like the M-422, but in cloth I wonder what the reason for its existence was.
I've been wondering about the shadings of these earlier models, and the early G-1's. I think the spec called for 'seal', but some examples appear to have a distinctly russet tone. E.g.

I'm normally around a 40, and that's what both of my M422's are. In anticipation of buying a repo I took measurements:
Shoulders: 43.5"
Chest: 36.5"
Waist: 36"
Those are my measurements, so the jacket would need to be somewhat larger.
Ah, I see. So there's a continuum of prices from the M422 through the modern contracts, plus the normal price variations due to fit and condition. Makes sense.
When was the switch from goat to cow hide? The Wikipedia page for the G-1 just says 'later' versions are cow.

Hi Folks, and happy new year to most of you.
I recently posted an idea of turning one of my M422A's into an ANJ-3, and was rightly convinced that's not a good idea. So, I'm going to move them on to a collector who can treat them properly. I need something I can wear daily, and when reviewing...
I've got a dilemma. That is, I've got two M422As in original, perfect condition. One I bought here, from John Lever, ages ago, and at the time there was a thread debating whether or not it was some kind of repo (it's not -- I found the outline of a patch after looking closely).
The dilemma is I...
I can see this as a good reason for a trimmer jacket, but would have thought this to occur to the earlier contracts, especially as the A2s are of the 'short' variety. What's odd, IMO, is that all the early contracts have a lot of length, so it's not a manufacturers interpertation of the spec.
