Great looking jacket! I think the size, including sleeve length, is perfect. I always wonder at this "slim-fit" obsession we sometimes have. Most period pictures I have seen show jackets with a little room, especially around the waist.
Those of you with experience with vintage jackets, do they typically still have the original leather pull tab attached to the zipper? I don't know why this intrigues me--the question just occurred to me, and I'm a curious sort.
Every repro I have ever owned had a leather pull tab of some sort attached to the zipper. Does anyone know if this was standard issue with vintage A-2s or did it vary with contracts, manufacturers, etc.? Were some issued with no leather pull, or do we even know at this point?
Nice looking jacket, Platon.
For what it's worth, I'll put in my vote for a chocolate seal--not the super dark, almost black seal. When it comes to russet, though, I prefer a darker shade. It seems to me that repro makers often err on the dark side for seal and the light side for russet...
I'm the one that started the other thread about inset sleeves. Even after DiamondDave's detailed explanation, the one thing I still didn't understand was why the sleeve seem is rotated with an inset seam.
I think I may have just had an epifany. Is it to avoid all the leather bunching up in...
Watchman, great looking jacket and the fit is spot on. What is the front length (I assume the length you gave is the back)?
Also, if you don't mind, what is your chest, waist and weight? It looks as if you may be similar in size to me--I'm trying to get a feel for my correct size in a GW...
CBI (and anyone else with GW experience), which contracts would you recommend for someone with a more athletic build? Even at the ripe old age of 52, I have somehow managed hang on to a fairly athletic shape (42" chest, 34" waist). I don't have particularly broad shoulders, though, so even...
Thanks, Dave. I understand much better after your explanation. I'm still not totally there, though. Like Better Duck, I don't understand why the inset sleeve results in a roomier, more comfortable fit. Also, does the rotated sleeve seam result from the inset process, or is the sleeve rotated...
Quick intro: Long-time lurker and occasional poster on this and earlier boards. I have owned several of the high-end repros (Aero, Eastman, and, yes, LW) so I'm fairly educated on the subject. Most of said education has come from the members of this forum, and I am most appreciative.
For the...
