I guess it depends on how you look at it--I see them embossed (pressed) into the leather.

    Colorized history

Although I'm definitely not a fan of "colorizing" photos (especially historical ones), this is a great photograph. The jackets have been colorized--if they were still grayscale, they wouldn't be brown.

    New score--CWU-36/P tan summer jacket

Thank you, Rutger, for posting these. I know about the BBcode, and have posted photos from Flickr here in the past, but it just wouldn't work for me today for some reason (those pesky computer gremlins again!!). As for being "a threshold" in public certainly doesn't bother me a bit (not sure...

    New score--CWU-36/P tan summer jacket

Last attempt..... I just scored this unissued (at least the seller said it was) CWU-36/P tan summer jacket. It has no apparent wear, marks, or stains. I've been looking for one for a while. I apologize for having to post the URL's for the photos, but the "Img" option won't post the pics no...

    New score--CWU-36/P tan summer jacket

Well, I can't seem to post the photos here no matter what I do (resizing, etc). Sorry for the original post (VLJ won't let me completely delete it, and now it won't even let me edit it!). I'll try again later (sigh).

    How Do You Use Pecards?

For my part, I have used Pecard's Leather Dressing on my father's vintage A-2 several times over the years and have never dampened the leather first. Goop some on your fingers (not too much) and massage it firmly, but fairly gently, into the leather by hand in small sections until the entire...

In Country Made USAF LT. Colenol Cap w/ Scrambled Eggs

Nice! My dad was a L/C in the USAF and the term he used for the scrambled eggs was "Farts & Darts".

WW2 colour photos of U.S pilots

If you're speaking of photography back then, color film existed and was used during the war. Just look at Life Magazine's archives and any number of sites that have posted color photos of WW2.

    me and my A1

Jeez, lighten up Dr. H. ;) I'm not talking about whether the jacket sleeves or waist length are too long or too short. Marcel went on to say in a subsequent post that the A-1 fit him perfectly. The comment that he should dump the pants he was wearing in the photo and wear a "higher waisted"...

    me and my A1

Marcel, Great looking A-1! Sorry we missed you in New Orleans. It looks like you had a great trip and I'm glad the weather cooperated for you (no hurricanes or tropical storms). Isn't the WW2 Museum fantastic? I hope you were able visit a few of the excellent restaurants in New...

531st Bomb Squadron as part of a restoration project...

I wouldn't go completely by the patch images on the 380th BG cover. They are cloth repro patches the 380th BG Association (of which I'm a member) has for sale. They are not necessarily completely accurate to the originals--a case in point below: The first is the repro 529th BS patch the...

    Your first original

My father's original A-2, which he wore as a B-24 pilot in WW2. I still have it and will never sell it. I purchased a repro Eastman Leather A-2 through History Preservation Associates several years ago (which I also still have).

    WW2 Museum, New Orleans.

I just returned from New Orleans, LA. While there I visited the WW2 Museum. It was very interesting and worth a visit if you're ever there. The photo below is one of the exhibits of WW2 memorabilia. The items belonged to 2nd Lt William A. Cunningham, who was a B-24 Navigator, 5th AF, 321st...

    hand painted denim jacket

This denim jacket is owned by a veteran who was a B-24 Navigator with the 380th BG in WW2, stationed at Fenton Field, Northern Australia. It was painted by his granddaughter. The 5th AF on the shoulder is a cloth patch.
