Decided to put a NOS army air forces decal on my ELC monarch.

I have one left. First to pm me gets it. Preferably in the USA.
The one left has a little material worn off the wings.

I used a special book binders glue (PVA) which is great for leather. It dries clear and remains flexible and is heat activated if I ever decided to remove the residue of the decal wore off completely.

UPDATE: decal taken.

It is surprising that after many years it is possible to use.
I put AAF decal repro bought from the MASH on one of my A2 jackets. The result was slightly better than what you got. But I still then deleted it later.

There was a thread in the “How To Section” I believe, on how to put one of these on. There was also a tutorial on the Mash website on placing one of these on a jacket. Not exactly a simple thing to do, if your doing if correctly.

not sure how its supposed to turn out, but aside from a few flakes of the decal coming off (probably due to dry rot), once it adhered it has now sunk into the grain and creases of the leather and is super flexible without it appearing to fall apart. I am guessing only the glue I put on is whats holding the decal. The glue that would have come from the water decal has long since gone sour I suspect.

I have 2 vintage decals (also an eBay find) and considering placing one on my ELC Star Sportswear. I know MASH has Leather Cement & Decal Coating but when I tried to order their water slide decals going through their purchasing process I never got a reply back for my order to be placed. Hence using one of my NOS decals.

Is MASH the only place to find Meyercord 1036-R", and "Decal Coating 1043-M?

*****after much research it appears MASH.jp is the only supplier now as the Chicago co. went out of business or ceased production in the mid 90's. I even searched for the stuff on amazon to no avail so I'll try ordering from mash again and see if I get a PayPal request this time.

by the way keep an eye out for this guy: https://www.ebay.com/usr/grapemoby
he has been putting up a set of NOS originals about once every month or so. $42.50 plus shipping. he "found a box of these original unused WWII AAF Sleeve Decals" and only has a few sets left. He put a set up in May and twice this month. so I'm sure he will again soon.

pretty sure that is they guy I bought mine from. I paid a little less with BO. From the pics, mine were a little different. different in that some of the decal had flaked off. but still looks cool and didn't want to bother with a return.
ELC's warhorse accepted this decal wonderful in my opinion. I highly recommend the Jade PVA book binders glue. dries super fast, not tacky and super clear and super flexible. Strong as an ox and holds up to water better than aleens tacky glue.
I spread a coat of it not top as well and that will give it some sealant.

thanks Jeremiah! good tip! I'll get some pva book binders glue. well, I figure the decal will start to flake or scrape eventually and if it arrives a bit scuffled that's okay... it will give the jacket a vintage appearance. LOL!

I did everything according to the instructions from MASH website. Everything was OK :

But I finally removed it anyway after 2 week wearing. It was 2 years ago, I sold this jacket long ago.

Probably I like the "wiped" and aged look of this decal more like this original for example - this is a photo of Andrew's RW 23380, whom he kindly sent me, I consulted with him 2 years ago on the hat forum about AAF decals and he helped me, thanks again to him.

I did not want to age my AAF MASH decal artificially.

And finally I desided that I like the leather sleeve patch more :)

Yeah that looks sweet. I think this will look like that aged one real quick.
I think the evidence of the clear decal border which is white-ish around mine is from lack of adhering due to spoiled decal adhesive. That and the facts of my sleeve being much more wrinkled and grain pattern more rough and the decal almost falling apart as it were from age.

You did a good job on yours.

Btw. I think I will have arrived when I get more likes from Grant one day:D

Hold off on that pVA glue on the top of the decal. I had done an experiment in the sink with what rain would do. So had to wash that layer off. Good things it’s water soluble. I don’t think the decal allowed the top coat to sink in and set.

A better choice is a product called resolene for leather as a top coat sealer.

But in other news the decal has a nice worn look to it which was what I ultimately was after.
