Your 42 AVI G-1 really looks great Greg and looking forward to seeing it patched.

I just ordered a Bronco A-2 from AVI today so looking forward to it ;)

One interesting thing I noted as a first time G-1 owner is that it's not going to compete with my A-2, but complement it. The A-2 feels like a thin summer leather shirt after the robust G-1. I was afraid that owning a G-1 would take away wear time from the A-2, but this will not be the case. I'll be wearing it when it's too cold for the A-2, but not cold enough for my Irvin.

@Smithy , looking forward to seeing that Bronco!

Nice fit pictures and review, @Greg Gale! I think it turns out better that you didn't buy mine and instead try both sizes on. 42 looks amazing on you and can only look better with age.

@Smithy , looking forward to seeing that Bronco!

I got an email today saying it's already been sent and as it's only being sent from Denmark I'm thinking I might have it in my paws early this coming week.

Just to add I thought that the online order system with AVI was the best I have used security-wise.

Thanks everyone for your input, I sent the size 40 back to Denmark yesterday. I'll post updates once the knits have been replaced and the patches sewn on.

Follow up on the Five Star A-1

When it arrived the shipping address was in Pakistan, a manufacturer of Leather Jackets. It turns out Five Star is the factory’s retail wing selling direct to the public on Amazon and Ebay.

Independently to the A-1 purchase we sent the factory a picture of a G1 and asked if they made anything like that. We chose a pic of an Avirex so as not to set the bar too high.

They replied by saying they did make a similar jacket and offered to send a free sample. Amongst the list of companies they claim to make for was AVI.

The jacket arrived this week, size is marked “L”, fit pics are on one of our machinists who wears a 42”

Impartial review……………….

It’s a well made jacket, cut is OK, it’s the cheapest type of Goatskin but no worse that many recent issue G-1s, real fur collar. Period correct Talon zipper . USN decal behind the collar, decent knits.

What is totally astonishing are the prices, these are quite a bit cheaper that the A-2s we had made in India in 1999, the one’s we sold at £200

The trade price is $65, Retail $130 bought direct from Five Star compared with $400 via Denmark from AVI

We’ve decided against stocking these as we’d need to price them around $200/$225 so we’d be undercut by the factory shop's $130 price and, more importantly, if the likes of Aero, ELC, Lewis and many, many, others with a similar choice to make don’t support UK manufacturing, it’ll disappear forever.

Moral of the story : If the end user has to buy a made in Pakistan jacket, buy it direct from the factory at retail price, that way a bit more of the money spent might trickle down the ranks to improve staff wages

I bet this will motivate AVI to 'upgrade' their version (or is this an AVI upgrade being sold by the factory's retail arm????). It is still a very nice jacket all the same.

Sure is for $130 retail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure how I'd feel right now if I had the $400 version hanging in the closet
Perhaps AVI will upgrade to an EU manufacture?

Maybe AVI is not aware that this being sold by Five Star Leathers on Ebay. Maybe AVI has gone to all the effort and expense acquiring an original, working out the patterns, components and materials and then these guys go undersell these jackets on the side... That would not be cool...
I wonder if the snaps and buttons are the same....
What did you pay on imports and taxes Ken?
