Cheap $7 bag with USMC nose art for a fictious screen character..

Guys,

here is a cheap bag I got from a German clothing retailer last year. The price for this OD canvas bag was USD 7, completey covered with some fake military patches and flags.

I took them off and added some USMC-themed nose art to it.

It is a work of fantasy, but maybe someone of you gets the overall reference?

Hope you like it...

I`m always wondering how you "convert" those characters into stencils???

This one is somewhat easy actually. You take the original:

You delete the color inside the body, keep the outlines and yellow parts in black. Then you have to "open" the black outlines in a couple places, otherwise, when you'll cut along those lines, the whole inside of the stencil will fall off.

Well, I re-read that, and I guess it's easier explained with images than words! The more outlines and inner form you'll have, the harder it will be to make a stencil out of it.

It is neither voodoo nor rocket science..

1. Take a/any picture/cartoon.

2. Find out which details are important for the final motif.

3. Cut the outlines. Together with 2. this is actually the hardest part, because one has the tendency to put too much details in it...you do not really get a stencil but a shredded piece of paper plus to many details look kinda "over-engineered".

4. Final result.

I always like your painting projects Ties, you're a talented bloke. That's another ripper although my soft spot is still for that East German airline bag you did last year ;-)

Thx Ties for sharing and like Cedric pointed out: easier to understand with a couple of pics rather than with some explanations.

So far stencil-wise I think I like the Mermaid on your denim-bag the most ...

As for the painted characters still “my” A2 is the absolute Favourite.

Hi Thomas,

I am so glad that you like the "Widow"!

The mermaid stencil is cool, but she shows exactly what could become a problem:
Too many details, especially with the "blocked" areas (hair, gloves, fluke) could look funny. Keep in mind that you actually make a negative print, which is unusual for the eye per se...
