Gents,
I have just completed the task of grading this pattern. This jacket will be available from sizes 38 to 50, and I may well grade it up to a size 54 just as was available during WWII. I have started to get some questions from some bigger guys about this, so it may well have to happen.
The original pattern was made by JC at Good Wear, and taken from an original USL jacket that I sold to John a couple of years ago.
This particular example is made of hand tinted hides. These start with a fantastic 3oz hide made from German and Swiss raw materials which has been combination tanned and aniline finished. The process starts there, the hides are then tumbled to bring up the natural grain, and several colors of hand applied leather pigment are added to the top, culminating in a very believable finish to be sure. The color is then finished with a top coat and leather nourishment to bring back the soft feel of the leather. This is a painstaking process, but one that I really like since we have had a hell of a time getting the tanneries to do what we want, in a color that is correct for the period.
