The G1 jacket oracle?

With much G1 chat here of late, I'm actually sitting typing this wearing my Cagleco 39321A which has both the under collar silver USN stencil plus the perforated wind flap - I've often believed they had either or not both! Also the perforation reads correctly from base of wind flap, about 3" up in about 1" tall letters/perf's unlike my other Cagleco that has no stencil but the larger perf'd letters read down the wind flap sitting one above the other!! Any comments appreciated but I'm guessing the stamp/perf's were purely because it was technically never actually the wearers property and he would officially have to returned it on leaving the service? Wonder why USAAF never did anything similar and for the same reason why they allowed name tags??

Generally the M422 - G-1 (AER) got the painted stencil on the back of the collar. and after that, the perforations took over. There have been examples of both stencils present as you have explained. Both formats of perforations have been used in the past, the stacked letters and the left to right lettering. The jacket is most likely correct and not modified but seeing the perforation may help identify that.

Name tags have always been allowed on the USN jackets as far as I know. For sure when I was in the USN from 1989-1993. However the rank is also required so the tag would have to be changed out when the Aircrew man got any advancement in rank. Some guys put a Velcro patch on for that reason. Some put no nametag on.

Yes could be. Also I think that some jackets during the changeover probably got both regardless of the maker. As I recall it was not a Cagleco that I saw that had the double markings. I think it is a result of the change rather than a particular contract feature. More of a time period thing than a planned feature. It's mostly speculative on my part but it makes sense to me. Contract manufacturers would have probably had a few jackets around when the perforation came into effect. The new spec called for the perforation and so they just punched it into the flap of the jackets they already had with the painted collar.

Thanks guys, sounds like I need to re-visit my JC jacket CD, don't think I've ever viewed it fully due to life getting in the way and the need to do it via PC, the iPad is too convenient!! I note my zip is a blackened Conmar, unlike that Oose has shown, unless that's a replacement as it does look rather new and clean!

Its a replacement, should be a blackened conmar as per usual.
