Need advice on this original Aero

Gents I've enquired about this jacket which is in not too good shape but maybe repairable, I can just make out the label as Beacon NY and by the shape of the pockets, mustard lining it looks to be an Aero, size 48. I can't see the zipper but there appears to be major issues to the leather around the collar? Also fairly obvious is the lining is trashed. Interesting that the knits seem new considering the other issues.

He's made me an offer of US 1200 +shipping, But my price would be closer to 1000, reasonable? I need to know the measurements and as I don't buy jackets unless I can where them it all depends on that and whether its worth repairing. e.g. how much is it to reline and is it worth it. Open too your opinions so what do you think?

Matt, I think $1200 is still quite high for this Aero 42-15142-P. The decay along the collar fold is worrying and there appears to be a couple of holes on the left upper sleeve. Certainly the upper part of the lining would need to be replaced if you intend to wear it. This jacket has been on Ebay for months so he may go lower than $1200. Repairing/replacing the lining would cost in the region of $75-100 depending on who you use to do it. I would offer his $950 and explain to him the obvious defects and what it would cost to put right.

save your dough. andrew is correct in his assessment of the collar, shoulders, and liner. my thought is, if those areas are thinned out, and or dry rotted, there will likely be more of same though out the jacket. not to mention the possibillity of the zipper tape being dried out to the point of tearing. even if the obvious issues are dealt with and repaired, you will still have a jacket that is going to be problematic, not to mention, not really a wearer. save yer dough, daddyo.

Thank you chaps you just reinforced my initial concerns

I'll pass on it, I have feeling it will be too large for me anyway

Sounds like you've made up your mind Skip, Andrew owns and has handled enough originals to offer sound advice plus, if you are concerned over the size/fit then I'm guessing you are after a wearer which even after good restorative work by whoever, that Aero may not be! Patience comes to those who wait, you'll get a good one eventually if your heart is set on it and there's the growing number of older repro's you ought to consider - some of GW's early creations are very appealing. I have one original (ironically bought from Andrew) which I love having and wearing from time to time but in all honesty when I do wear it, whilst is a nice feeling, is really no better than say my GW Doniger and certainly to the outside world they probably look the same, or so my wife says!!

You have made the right decision Skip. The fact that this Aero has been on Ebay for months speaks volumes. There will be others and better ones which may tempt you in the future.

Pilot, do you mean Diamond Dave, DiamondClothing Co?

Not that I'm aware of. This is an original Aero not a Repro and its in fairly sad condition especially the lining.
