G1 jackets over the last decades

Gents,

i`m considering buying a G1 in my size 44 ...

Actually I do not expect to find a wartime jacket in my size or if yes - would be awesome expensive

So can someone gimme a hint wether a "modern" G1 might get through as a wartime model or are the differences too obvious?

THX in advance!

I've had a wartime G1 for sale in size 44 for the last week. It's in the Buy Sell section. A nice Star Sportswear. We can work something out if you have an interest.

Er.....Vietnam War. It’s a really nice jacket which I’d have been interested in myself if I had a few quid spare. Actually I’m astounded how much the price of G-1’s has gone up in recent years. I’ve picked them up for as little as £40 (for my current one), I’ve had ‘Nam era mouton collar jobs for £80, but even Dynel collar ones are £100+, and mouton ones £200-300 at least.

Not to mention the pre 60's G1, I bought recently on ebay a 1973 Brill Bros. for 50$ (excellent condition) and a 1963 Irvin B Foster for 29$ (cuff to be changed) ;)
They size 40/42 .. I think the prices start to take off when you're searching for 44 or more and also with patched "who really flew" G1's !

This is so true...I wear a size 44 in A2's (repro makers of course) and i'm looking to buy for my next project used but in good condition G1 jacket, from 60's or 70's (1965-1972).
Last week I found several jackets on ebay (Martin Lane, Foster, Star) which were very nice but non of them bellow 220$ (starting price), and all of them with sellers in the USA.
The reason why i didn't pull the trigger on these are shipping costs to Europe which at this moment are too high for me, almost 70 $.

Interesting conversation.
My take on this is, that it's the repro market that has driven the cost of original G1 jackets up over the last few years. As most of us would agree, G1 's were very reasonably priced here in the US. With all of the repros hitting the market in the $250 to 400 price ranges , originals in the $200 to $300 range are now a bargain, particularly with real goatskin and mouton collars. None of which are usually found on reproduction jackets, unless they are priced above 400.00 US.
Your thoughts?

A WWII such jacket would actually be an M442/a, I maybe wrong but I believe the G1 designation didn't kick in 'till 1947/8 - others here maybe put me right but I have a very nice mid 50's Cagleco in 44" I'll let go if anyone's interested? I bought it from another VLJ member some years ago (JDAM, from California I think) and the only reason I'm offloading it is because I have another almost identical jacket! As expected with that period it has a great mouton collar in perfect condition, it's goat for sure and although I've not had it out of the wardrobe for a while I recall there are one or two stitched moth holes on w/knit and some minor nicks on front of the shoulders where it could have been due to harness scuffing - naturally I've no proof but entirely plausible!! Overall IMO a great jacket that's looks as they should. As to price then it has to be worth £350?
PM me if interested with email info and I'll send a few pics but there's a very similar one on eBay for a BIN price of £680 so maybe I'm under pricing it?

absolutely ! I've seen several late 80's repros "bat-sleeve and typicaly 80's goofy oversize" like my old A2 Glen Miller from 500 to 800$ with the infamous tags "original/vintage/real/etc.." !!!!!!!!!!
No surprise that the true G1s follow that delirium !
