A2 Restoration for Vet

Moreover, if this was requested by the vet himself and his family, I don't see why anyone should have issue with this.

Well perhaps you and the Vet should spend 30 seconds watching Antique Roadshow on PBS and " see " how painting over a priceless antique alters its value to next to nothing, but thanks for chiming in. "Moreover" .

It's their Effin' jacket!
Continue to be amazed at the arrogance of those who think they know better.
Same kind of chatter heard during election year.
If it ain't yours, it ain't yer business.

I believe this is a fourm and making valid informed comments is a big part of that.

I am glad you mentioned the word business because that is exactly what this Philistine is trying to promote...his jacket painting business at the expence of a historical item.

...don't see the relation between this post and the election, sorry both are traumatizing for you.

ease up lads, lets not get too personal. Buck, I happen to know A2J, he's completed quite a few patches for my jackets, and like everyone he has views on almost anything if you care to engage him in conversation, and like everyone you can guarrantee it aint all going to agree. unfortunately he was kicked off here for reasons I won't go in to. he has a very great interest in Military items, so he's quite up to speed on keeping originals as they are. But of course not everyone has the same view as we discussed earlier, which is ok. Different perspectives. I'd recommend him to do any artwork if you are so ever inclined to need any completed.

He aint no philistine mate, he's an artiste! :)

And again, it's the vet's jacket, the one he flew and fought with. He and his familly most probably doesn't care AT ALL about the commercial value of the jacket. What he cares about is the sentimental one, and if he wants HIS jacket to look like it was during his wartime, so be it!

I find it profoundly sad to see people thinking only about the value of such pieces and be totally oblivious of the desires of the people who wore it in combat. Who are you to dictate a veteran what he should do with his belongings?!

Cock er, I don't believe altering a piece of history is the right way to procede on so many levels, not just dollar value. In this case the "artist" stated his desire and I believe he wanted comments. I provided mine and stated why. Several other people did and I believe the majority advised against his "Paint By Numbers" coloring project. I also believe he did not advise the Vet. in question to not ruin a classic jacket. Once altered it is done, final.

I find it "profoundly sad" that you are taking issue with people that comment on this site, and I did by no means whatsoever "Dictate to the Vet. in question, on what to do with his property", but again, thanks so much for chiming in...

Last point, once the "artist" read all the comments (Most advising not to alter the jacket, clean with Pecards and or just make a copy on a repro) he said he was done posting and did not care what others thought, he was proceding with his paint by numbers project. Again I believe he did it without advising the Vet. on other options .

As to answer your question of, who am I ? Not that it matters but I am a Vet also.

No problem Skip. Thanks.

Just giving my 2 cents.

Out.

Funny, new member comes in, digs up four year old thread, starts a battle that didn'h a haexist. Seems you have a bone to pick with the OP more than anything...thanks for playing though. And no, being a Vet has no bearing on your opinions on this.

Well, " Funny" , it seems a bit pompous to pick apart a new member.

Are you in fact insinuating that because I am new, your view has more bearing on this site than mine?

My Vet status has no bearing, of course, I agree. I was adressing Cocker, who was demonizing me for not supporting a narrow minded Vet with a hare brained idea that some paint by numbers artist de value his original A-2.

Sorry, you have not convinced me this was a good idea, but thanks for trying.

Demonizing... Oh Lord...

But please, go ahead, keep on insulting a WW2 Vet'. Anyway, I don't think he cares or even ought to care about your opinion on his jacket. I don't even get why you're so mad about this.

And don't tell my it will ruin the value of the jacket, blablabla. We all read it, we all understood your point of view, but you seem totally impervious to the sentimental value of the jacket to the guy that owns it.

That's it for me, I let you rant as much as you want!

He's now gone, @Cocker. Nathan took care of the obvious attempt to smear a (non) member. I only wish that guys this stupid could step up things a notch to make it a little harder to see what they're about. You know, more of a challenge? But then, prisons are filled with stupid people aren't they?

I think Nathan posted while I was typing my answer, and I'll admit being too lazy to edit...

But I concur, it's not even fair game, it's like going hunting and having to shoot a at deer standing in the open at 25 yards! Maybe we should train these guys to be a little more delicate and harder to spot, that'd be more fun!
