Bronson B-10

On the collar, how can I easily tell if the mouton is genuine or synthentic?
Hmmm, good question. It certainly looks the part. Try giving it a good sniff. Mouton has a slightly musty odour. Not unpleasant, just a slight animal smell. At least vintage stuff does. Not sure how a new jacket would smell. Another possibility is the strap across the neck. There should be a rectangle of mouton sewn to it. You should be able to lift the edge slightly to see if it looks like skin or synthetic backing.

It seems to pass the smell test. Here are some pictures of the strap.

It's hard to tell without seeing it. Not that it really matters. Great jacket at a great price. Think I might be investing in one for next winter.

Peter,

I just noticed that the cuffs have a vertical seam (same as the B-10 posted earlier on this thread). I probably won't swap them out those because when worn the seam is against the coat and not visible.

I just received "my" B10 from Bronson in 44 together with a USN 37J1 jacket also in 44, early tanker jacket in 42 and a chambray shirt.
The B10 in 44 is a perfect fit for me - everything else about the BRONSON products like quality aso was already discussed in the forum. After reading the comments in this thread I ordered the tanker in 42 instead of 44 but this jacket is too tight for me. Was just a try - if anyone is interested in the jacket drop me a note - would sell for the catalogue price + shipping from Mexico.

If BRONSON continues with enlarging their product portfolio and stay with the current quality some of the highpricy manufacturers will run in trouble ...

Will drop "fitpics" asap ...

I'm glad the B-10 was as expected. :) I continue to be impressed with mine, and have worn it often as of late, in pretty chilly temps. Apologies for not getting my review up yet...life has a strange way of putting things one wants to do off a bit. ;)

Back to the noted seamed knit cuffs on the Bronson B-10.. I ran across an original B-15 for sale on the Bay, and while I do not claim to be an expert by any means, the knits appear to be original, and I'll be damned if the jacket doesn't have seamed knit cuffs. Not a B-10, but not too far of a stretch to think that some B-10's may have had them also? Here's a pic:

Yeah Techno THX for your advice for getting one - I have the all-green version still needs some ironing coz it was tucked in my workmates suitcase when he brought the jacket straight from China to Mexico

Will drop some pics asap

Looking forward to the pics. I've become a recent B-10 convert, mine is merely one of ATF's ones but I seriously like it, they have to be one of the most versatile flying jackets there are, and certainly one of the most comfortable and easy to wear.

Those definitely look like replacements knits to me and probably a polyester blend or acrylic, judging by the look and thickness of those wrist knits. I have had cheap repros with those type of knits. Basically they are sweatshirt knits. You can tell by the way they fold in the photo. I never seen an original with sewn together knits.

Regarding that "original" B-15... I think it was discussed here before, but it sure doesn't look like an issued B-15. More like one of the common post-war versions. So I wouldn't judge those knits as original, or a good representation of B-10 knits.

I'm looking for forward to pics of the 37J1!

Like I posted, I'm far from an expert on cloth. The aging / wear / knit repairs / Conmar zipper looked 'right' to me. Regardless, the Bronson seamed cuffs are not noticeable unless closely scrutinized, and are more than adequate for an $179.00 USD B-10 repro IMO.. :) Same goes for the $200.00 USD Bronson A-1. I challenge anyone to find similar detailed B-10's with at least 75% wool content linings instead of the less-expensive acrylic / poly, or veg-tanned goat A-1 repros of very good quality at the same price points.. ;)

managed to take some snapshots on the WE - so here they come:

first some basic info: I'm 1.90 mtr (equals 6"3) and my weight is about 95 kg / approx. 47.5 pounds

when I tried the jackets on I weared just a chambray (which I also ordered at BRONSON)

first the 37J1 - I ordered the jacket in size 44 and happy with it - inparallel I ordered a early tanker jacket from Bronson in 42 which absolutely does not fit so i`m happy I choose the 44

the outer material is similar to the ones they use for their N1 repops - cratmanship is fine - no loose threads or anything like that

i`m not able to judge really down to bits `n bites level coz I never saw a 37J1 "in person" before

for the fit judge yourself ...

for the B10 I also choose for the 44 - THX "Techno" for the sizetable and for your fitpics - again happy with the 44 coz of the sleeve-length (seems I have "Gibbon-Arms") and also for the room around the belly

the USAF-print looks pretty realistic to me

the shape and make of the jacket is better than most which I have seen before and pricewise - like stated a couple of times before - the Bronson stuff is almost "unbeatable"

once again - judge yourself wether you like the fit or not - I feel happy with it

Both of those are really nice Thomas and good fits. Bronson should do pretty well if they keep this up.

I'd jump at the B-10 if I hadn't just got an ATF one at the start of January.

Wear them and enjoy, they look great.

I've just ordered an N4 from them via Aliexpress.

I had a look at the ATF version but this one looked far superior, the ATF N4 is just too long.

I'll post up pics etc… once it arrives.

So far the experience has been positive, I had a message thanking me for my custom not only that but the import "issue" has also been dealt with.
Apparently the military jackets are made by this guys friend and it is a relatively new venture.

Thomas, yes mate, I've had it a few months now and am very impressed.
Excellent quality and some nice details. However having seen images of originals I think the outer shell is slightly different, not the same weave/texture but that's only comparing visuals. My guess is the original N4 had a shell similar to an early A-2 Deck (nam-era) but I may be mistaken. Having said that I went to buy another today and they're sadly sold out of XL's.

Have you had a recent Bronson N-1?

Just to revive this as they have stock again and am looking to pull the trigger just worried about sizing and looking for opinions.

I usually wear a size 44 and my last Good Wear Shearling was a 46 and the fit was great. I'm 5' 11" and 200 pounds so I'm torn between the two reviews to go with the Large which shows a 46" chest or the XL which shows a 48" chest. I'm leaning towards the XL as the shoulders match my Good Wear better then the Large Bronson does.

I'm not looking for a really trim fit I'd rather have the option to layer if I so choose. Also don't need the Michelin man look.

Opinions?
